Arrived in Quebec in 2011, Martin Salvat first completed his master's degree in engineering at
the Polytechnic School of Montreal before redirecting his career toward the field of helping relationships
that he was passionate about. Very pleased with this choice, since 2019 he has held a
master's degree in social work from the University of Montreal.
Martin supports adults in their process of change. He works on
a variety of issues such as mental health (stress, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts,
recovery), relational, couple or family difficulties, self-assertion
self, anger management, violence perpetrated or experienced, losses (bereavement, separation),
life transitions, addictions.
During his sessions, he strives to establish a warm and respectful atmosphere that respects
the pace of each person. He likes to highlight people's strengths to strengthen
their agency, and he does not hesitate to share tools when relevant. He
adapts his intervention according to the context and the individual's particularities.
Very aligned with humanistic theories, he uses different approaches such as
the strengths-based approach and the systemic approach to guide his
interventions. In his previous experiences, Martin provided support to
immigrants in the community sector, then to an adult justice-involved clientele
presenting substance use problems (alcohol and drugs) at the
Montreal Addiction Rehabilitation Centre. He currently divides his time between private practice
and a position as clinical coordinator at the Montreal Men's Resource Centre.
There he offers services to users including the anger management group for men
presenting issues with anger and aggressiveness. He trains and clinically supervises the
staff and interns of the Centre. He is also a certified trainer in interventions with
men, a two-day training given to practitioners in the health and community
network to facilitate their intervention with men in distress.
Member of the Order of Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists of
Quebec.
